“Council Members expressed their grave disappointment that the messages in the PRST (Presidential Statement) of 28th July have not been heeded. They reiterated in the strongest terms their expectations that the PRST must be implemented. Council Members call for an immediate unconditional humanitarian ceasefire that can lead to a sustainable ceasefire based upon the Egyptian proposal. Pending this, Council Members encourage the use of humanitarian pauses. They call on Member States to donate to UNRWA’s flash appeal.”

The Security Council expressed their grave disappointment that the messages in the presidential statement from 28h July had not been heeded.
Speaking to reporters in New York, Rwanda’s Deputy Permanent Representative said Security Council members reiterated their call for an immediate unconditional humanitarian ceasefire that can lead to a sustainable ceasefire based upon the Egyptian proposal.
Olivier Nduhungirehe added “Council Members call for an immediate unconditional humanitarian ceasefire that can lead to a sustainable ceasefire based upon the Egyptian proposal.”
He noted “pending this, Council Members encourage the use of humanitarian pauses”, adding that “they call on Member States to donate to UNRWA’s flash appeal.”
According to the UN Office for Humanitarian Coordination, nearly four weeks of conflict have left more than 1,300 Palestinians dead and 6,000 injured; and over 80 percent of those killed have been civilians; 251 children.
Israel has faced rocket fire, and the hostilities have resulted in the deaths of 3 civilians and 56 soldiers, with dozens injured.
Over 80 per cent of Gaza’s population of 1.8 million – more than half of them children under the age of 18 – were already dependent on humanitarian aid before the outbreak of hostilities.
