Garbaharrey and Bulo Burte are located in Sector 3 and 4 respectively and were liberated in the last AMISOM offensive. AMISOM and Somali National Army soldiers maintain the security of the towns despite attempts by Al Shabaab to blockade the roads leading to the towns thus worsening the food crisis.
The AMISOM team included Rasha Elamin Protection, Human Rights and Gender officer, Walter Lotze African Union Peace Support Operations Division, Dr.Moreira Komlan AMISOM Medical Planning officer and Andrew Alele AMISOM Civil Engineer.
As part of its mandate, AMISOM is tasked with providing safe corridors and a condusive environment for humanitarian efforts.
