Storyline

As part of the ongoing joint military offensive, the Somalia National Army (SNA) and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops have liberated several towns in Middle Shabelle and Hiiran regions.

The areas liberated include a crossroad along Dangaras which connects several towns in Middle Shabelle region, Kiliga Shiinaha as well as the town of Fidow in Hiraan region.

The Somali National Army supported by AMISOM forces have faced little resistance in their advancement against al-Shabaab.

AMISOM said the operations will continue until the strategic town of Jalalaqsi has been captured.

The operation is being led by the SNA, supported by AMISOM as part of the ongoing training and mentorship of the Somali national security institutions to take charge of country’s security.

Other towns captured during the on going operation include Buulo Mareer, Kurtunwaarey and Goolweyn, in the Lower Shabelle region.
