“Ukrainian crisis is the reflection of the longstanding controversy that has been accumulated in the European politics well after the end of the cold war, claiming that security should be indivisible and equal for all in Europe, but these were only words. Nothing happened in practice. NATO continued moving its infrastructure east with growing dalliance and as resolved solid promises to create indivisible security as foundations of European security remained on paper. Words only. We are concerned of this and many other matters.”

7. SOUNDBITE (Russian) H.E. Mr. Sergey V. Lavrov, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation:
“I hope that the settlement process will become sustainable. It can be only gradual, sequential and requiring appropriate assistance so when all external stakeholders and players play the same key. Sometimes, we have the impressions that some members of the Ukrainian government –specially Mr. [Arseniy] Yatsenyuk appointed Prime Minister by the Supreme Rada [Parliament] does not support the steps leading to the normalization of the situation in Eastern Ukraine and he takes rather an aggressive position denying the non-aligning status of Ukraine, which doesn’t help president [Petro] Poroshenko in his efforts. We, in our context, with our European and American colleagues draw the attention on a permanent and constantly that we must act constructively without instigating subversive acts against the peaceful process.”

9. SOUNDBITE (Russian) H.E. Mr. Sergey V. Lavrov, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation:
“Domestic issues should be decided on basis of a broad national dialogue engaging all political, ethnic and other minorities groups without imposing settlement scenarios from the outside. We’ve seen many examples –I don’t want to list them- when attempted to settle a crisis at one country ignoring completely the real situation within a country it failed to achieve lasting solution of the existing problem.”
