“In this operation from this hour, we will start our advances to the remaining parts of Middle Shabelle region. We are operating with our brothers of AMISOM, it is a joint operation. The name of the operation is Indian Ocean as ordered by the Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. In this phase we will pacify some parts controlled by the enemy very quickly. Those parts will no longer remain in the hands of al Shabaab”.

Storyline

The Somali National Army (SNA) and troops from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have captured the town of Raaga Ele in the Middle Shabelle region. This is the fifth town liberated so far in the current operation.

The forces did not encounter any resistance as they took over the town, abandoned earlier by the militia al Shabaab.

The operation commanders say the lack of resistance attests to the weakened state of the militants and have pledged to work towards having more territory liberated.
