“What is also important to understand that we don’t forget about Crimea, we don’t forget about some parts of the eastern Ukraine. For them the Constitutional Commission reserved seats in the Parliament, so they’ll be vacant until Ukraine got back with the possibility to organize elections in Crimea and in some regions on our east.”

“It’s a pity that a party of the Minsk Agreement –the Russian side- encourages these elections contrary to the stands of the world leaders. It’s a pity that today the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs applauded these elections. It’s a pity because it’s –again- the demonstration of disrespect of the international law, disrespect of the neighborhood relations.”

Storyline

Ukrainian ambassador Yuriy Sergeyev said “the elections, which have already been recognized by the world leadership, including the Secretary-General of the United Nations, were transparent and fair, and gives a hope that the new Parliament could bring reforms, which are so badly needed in Ukraine.”

Sergeyev briefed today (3 Nov) reporters in New York on the Parliamentary elections in Ukraine held on 26 October, saying “for the first time after the independence, Ukrainian Parliament may create the constitutional majority in the composition of democratic parties.”

The Ukrainian diplomat stressed “what is also important to understand that we don’t forget about Crimea, we don’t forget about some parts of the eastern Ukraine.”

He explained “for them the Constitutional Commission reserved seats in the Parliament, so they’ll be vacant until Ukraine got back with the possibility to organize elections in Crimea and in some regions on our east.”

Regarding the elections organized by pro-Russian separatists in the two self-proclaimed republics in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, Sergeyev said “It’s a pity that a party of the Minsk Agreement –the Russian side- encourages these elections contrary to the stands of the world leaders.”

He added “it’s a pity that today the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs applauded these elections. It’s a pity because it’s –again- the demonstration of disrespect of the international law, disrespect of the neighbourhood relations.”

Sergeyev noted that –according to the Minsk arrangements- Ukraine granted special status to some Donbass –as it is collectively called by the Russian separatists - towns and cities and proposed to hold local legitimate elections there on 7 December this year.
