7. SOUNDUP (English) Federico Alberto González Franco, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Paraguay to the United Nations:
“The following 18 states have thus been elected members of the Human Rights Council for a three-year term beginning on January 1st 2016: Belgium, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Georgia, Germany, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Panama, The Philippines, The Republic of Korea, Slovenia, Switzerland, Togo, United Arab Emirates, and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. I congratulate those states which have been elected members of the Human Rights Council.”

The General Assembly today (28 Oct) elected 18 members of the Human Rights Council for a three-year term.
The new members, Belgium, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Georgia, Germany, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Panama, The Philippines, The Republic of Korea, Slovenia, Switzerland, Togo, United Arab Emirates, and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, will join the 47-member Council beginning on January 1st 2016.

The Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe and for addressing situations of human rights violations and make recommendations on them. It has the ability to discuss all thematic human rights issues and situations that require its attention throughout the year. It meets at the UN Office at Geneva.
