Storyline

The United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, met today (13 Jan) with Representatives of the Five Permanent Members of the Security Council (P5) at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

The meeting was expected to include discussions about how the UN Security Council will implement the next steps of UN Security Council Resolution 2254, the preparations for the intra-Syrian talks planned to begin in Geneva on January 25 as well as the need for immediate, sustained, and unimpeded humanitarian access to Syrian places and people in need.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has said that is a priority to re-start the political process in 2016, based on the 2012 Geneva Communiqué and the Security Council resolution (2254) adopted on Dec. 18, 2015.
