United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon visited the Brookland Middle School in Washington DC yesterday (5 MAY) to highlight the school’s innovative sustainable projects. The schools has been internationally acclaimed for its green outdoor classroom, solar learning station, geothermal heating and cooling system, rooftop solar panels, in addition to many other environmentally friendly features.

DC Mayor Muriel Bower and Principal Norah Lycknell along with other school officials welcomed the Secretary-General and gave him a tour of the school. Ban also met with students and answered some of their questions on green energy. He told the students the school was “a great hope for the future.”

The visit to the school came on the side-lines of the Climate Action 2016 Summit which took place in the city.
