United Nations Police in South Sudan (UNPOL) said it is working to support the peace process in the country. Speaking to the press in Juba today (1 Jun), UNPOL Commissioner Bruce Munyambo said through the training of police and protection of civilians provided by his force they are enabling an environment for the peace process.

Munyambo said UNPOL provides physical protection for civilians and enables an environment for humanitarian assistance. He added that training for a Joint Integrated Police (JIP) will begin soon. He this training will help address issues of security and safety.

The JIP will include personnel from all ethnic backgrounds in South Sudan. It will also include member of both the government and opposition.
