The European Commission president told delegates today (9 Jun) at the annual International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva that the economic crisis in Europe will not be over until Europe reaches full employment.

Jean-Claude Juncker said that it was time for Europe to get a triple A rating for its social record, which “we are admittedly still far from achieving.” He said that in a time of crisis and threats to European solidarity, Europe must be able to accommodate those who seek its help and protection.

He said that the standards in workplace safety that all Europeans hold dear will be preserved, as will Europe's commitment to the fundamental rights of workers under the ILO conventions. Juncker also told delegates that while Europe was in better shape economically today, the crisis will not be over until Europe reaches full employment.
