UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon met today (14 Jul) with Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir in New York.
The two discussed the situation in Yemen and agreed on the urgency to have the Yemeni peace talks focus on outcomes and agreements that are actionable on the ground. Ban stressed that a negotiated political settlement is the only way to end the war and ensure that the interests of all parties to the conflict are met.
The Secretary-General welcomed the Saudi-led coalition’s readiness to take the necessary concrete measures and work together with the United Nations in a constructive manner to end and prevent violations against children in the Yemeni conflict. He hoped that the coalition would be able to provide information on the concrete actions they have taken so far to protect children and civilians in Yemen ahead of a Security Council meeting on the issue scheduled for early August.
