“I just want to stress the necessity of a strong and swift response from the Security Council and a reminder this missile landed incredibly closely to Japan, and this programme and its continued advancement poses a threat that goes well beyond any particular country.”

“This is a totally unacceptable action on the part of DPRK. The missile launched landed within Japan’s EEZ, Exclusive Economic Zone. There was no warning whatsoever. We see it as a grave violation of certainly the resolutions of the Security Council that have been passed before, but it is certainly a major, major problem for the security and safety of our region.”

“Obviously by now what they are doing is not just separate or random missile tests. I think that they are doing all of this with a systematic, comprehensive purpose of upgrading and refining their missile technology.”

United States Ambassador Samantha Power today (3 Aug) stressed “the necessity of a strong and swift response from the Security Council” to the latest misile launch by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).
Power, speaking to reporters after closed consultations of the Security Council, said “this missile landed incredibly closely to Japan, and this programme and its continued advancement poses a threat that goes well beyond any particular country.”
Japan’s Ambassador, Koro Bessho, said the launch was “a totally unacceptable action on the part of DPRK” noting also that “the missile launched landed within Japan’s EEZ, Exclusive Economic Zone.”
He said “there was no warning whatsoever” and called the launch “a grave violation” and “a major, major problem for the security and safety of our region.”
Also speaking to reporters, South Korea’s Ambassador, Oh Joon, said “obviously by now what they are doing is not just separate or random missile tests. I think that they are doing all of this with a systematic, comprehensive purpose of upgrading and refining their missile technology.”
Reportedly the DPRK test-fired two ballistic missiles, one failed, exploding right after the launch, while the other traveled about 1,000 km into Japan’s EEZ.
