United States (US) Ambassador Samantha Power told a group of displaced in Wau, South Sudan, “we feel your fear and we hear your suffering, we know how much you are suffering.”
Speaking to a group at a Civilian Protection Site (PoC), Power said on Sunday (4 Sept) that they were in the country to try to determine how they can strengthen UNMISS, how they can push the government and other parties to implement the peace agreement, and how they can secure accountability for the horrible crimes that have been committed in Wau and elsewhere in South Sudan.
Wau was part of a three-day tour in South Sudan by the delegation, to see for themselves and hear first-hand about the ongoing conflict.
The ongoing violence in and around Wau has resulted in the repeated displacement of more than 78,500people. This includes 39,800 internally displaced people currently sheltering at various locations in Wau town.
