Storyline

The UN mission in Mali conducted an extensive security operation called "Medica Operation" last month in the northern parts of the country to secure routes and identify places where terrorist may be located.

MINUSMA force commander General Michael Lollesgaard stressed the priority for providing security. The Medica Operation monitors access to villages on the main roads in order to provide security to the local population. It has mobilized special forces units by an air monitoring device.

He also met the chief of the village of Inadia Tafane and community leaders. He delivered 140 school kits to primary school of Dakakoro and Arsy.

Mali has become the deadliest place to serve for U.N. peacekeepers. More than 100 peacekeepers have been killed since MINUSMA deployed in July 2013. The northern region has remained plagued by violence despite a peace accord signed last year between Tuareg fighters and the government.
