8. SOUNDBITE (French) Francois Hollande, President, France:
“I have one thing to say here: That is enough. As in last February, the ceasefire has only held for a few days. It would’ve ended the day after of its announcement. The regime is responsible for its failure, and it won’t be exonerated based on mistakes made by others. I would say to its foreign supporters –that everyone here knows- that they must establish the peace in Syria. If not, they would also –alongside the regime-bear responsibility for the division and chaos in Syria.”

15. SOUNDBITE (French) Francois Hollande, President,France:
“Quite simply, I would like to say to those people who support the regime, and we know who they are - let’s speak frankly: the Russians – that what they need to do in their interest is to move towards a solution that I just proposed in the name of France, namely the Security Council should be seized swiftly and cessation of hostilities under the form negotiated between the United States and Russia should be respected. Why is it in their interest? Well, because supporting the regime right until the very end will not lead to Syria being reconquered, but it will lead to its partition and separation.”

French president Francois Hollande said that the Syrian tragedy will be seen by history "as a disgrace for the international community if we do not end it quickly.”
Addressing delegates today (20 Sep) at the General Assembly, Hollande stressed that Aleppo is today "a martyr city” and it would remain like that in history, noting that thousands of children have died in bombings, and its entire population was suffering hunger while humanitarian convoys were attacked.
He emphasized “enough”, adding that as of last February, the recent ceasefire had only held for a few days. He also said “the regime is responsible for its failure, and it won’t be exonerated based on mistakes made by others.“
In reference to the Russian Federation, he stressed “I would say to its foreign supporters –that everyone here knows- that they must establish the peace in Syria. If not, they would also –alongside the regime-bear responsibility for the division and chaos in Syria.”
Hollande noted that the Security Council should meet “as soon as possible”, and said “it should not be a theatre for fools. In other words, a place where each one evades their responsibility.”
Later, at a press conference, Hollande told reporters “quite simply, I would like to say to those people who support the regime, and we know who they are - let’s speak frankly: the Russians – that what they need to do in their interest is to move towards a solution that I just proposed in the name of France, namely the Security Council should be seized swiftly and cessation of hostilities under the form negotiated between the United States and Russia should be respected.”
He added, “Why is it in their interest? Well, because supporting the regime right until the very end will not lead to Syria being reconquered, but it will lead to its partition and separation.”
Hollande also urged the United States to support moderate opposition groups in Syria, but to refrain from cooperating with groups that are similar to the Islamic State.
