3. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister, Russian Federation:
“Unfortunately, the ideas of mentoring, supremacy, exclusiveness, realizing their own interests by any means have been deeply enrooted in the minds of political elites of a number of Western countries, to the detriment of the efforts to promote just and equitable cooperation. The outcome of arrogant attitude and feeling of their infallibility in pushing forward unilateral hazardous solutions to the most complex conflicts and crises can be observed by the example of bleeding Middle East and North Africa. As a result, the basis of world stability is being destroyed.”

5. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister, Russian Federation:
“Unfortunately the coalition led by the United States which committed itself to make sure that this separation happens has not been able to do this. Although my good friend and colleague John Kerry, every time we meet reaffirms that this is the commitment of the United States. We understand that this is a difficult task but everything is difficult in Syria and to say that you close your eyes on the fact that Al Nursa its covering is positions with some moderate groups and therefore you don’t touch Al Nusra is not what we agreed.”

7. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister, Russian Federation:
“We cannot tolerate a situation when humanitarian aspects are being abused and speculated upon. For the purposes, I don’t want to be mistake, but it seems that some people want to spare Al Nusra and keep it for maybe a later stage when the notorious plan B might be announced.”

9. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister, Russian Federation:
“And we did create a Geneva cell with the United States and the people there, at least the Russian military representatives are ready to sit down and develop a common map of these locations of Al Nursra so that there is no ambiguity, so that there is no outcry every time Al Nusra is hit and people start complaining that you hit somebody else. This is the key of the problem. Otherwise, as I said as soon as we separate, we can have truce forever for those who are not Al Nusra.”

11. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister, Russian Federation:
“You cannot speculate on the humanitarian aspects of the crisis, on the humanitarian sufferings of the civilians. By insisting on the humanitarian deliveries first, have a pretext not to move on the political process, not to move on the separation of the opposition from terrorist. It is a very dirty game if this is done intentionally.”

13. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister, Russian Federation:
“In Derr Ezzor the situation has been static for more than two years. The government troops are surrounded by ISIL and that’s it. And if this is a mistake after two full days of intelligence and of targeting then we also want an investigation frankly speaking.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the Syrian opposition did not hold its end of the agreement in the city of Aleppo, adding that he did not want to be mistaken but “it seems that some people want to spare Al Nusra and keep it for maybe a later stage when the notorious plan B might be announced.”
Speaking to reporters today (23 Sep) on the sidelines of the General Assembly, Lavrov said the coalition has not been able to separate between the opposition and Al Nusra as agreed upon between the United States (US) and Russia. He added, “To say that you close your eyes on the fact that Al Nursa is covering its positions with some moderate groups and therefore you don’t touch Al Nusra is not what we agreed.” The Russian Foreign Minister said without this separation the cessation of hostilities was “meaningless”.
Lavrov said Russian military representatives in Geneva were ready to develop a common map of with their US counterparts “so that there is no ambiguity, so that there is no outcry every time Al Nusra is hit and people start complaining that you hit somebody else.” He said if this happened, “we can have truce forever for those who are not Al Nusra.”
Lavrov quoted an American military official as saying that the coalition had gathered intelligence on the area in which Syrian troops were killed for two days prior to the strike. He said, “If this is a mistake after two full days of intelligence and of targeting then we also want an investigation frankly speaking.”
Speaking earlier today at the General Assembly, Lavrov said “the ideas of mentoring, supremacy, exclusiveness, realizing one’s own interests by any means have been deeply enrooted in the minds of political elites of a number of Western countries, to the detriment of the efforts to promote just and equitable cooperation.” He said the outcome of “arrogant attitude and feeling of their infallibility in pushing forward unilateral hazardous solutions to the most complex conflicts and crises can be observed by the example of bleeding Middle East and North Africa.” Lavrov said his government’s military assistance to the Syrian government at its request, helped make it possible to “prevent the collapse of the statehood and disintegration of that country under the onslaught of terrorists.”
