Storyline

As families continue to flee Mosul, UNHCR's Hasansham camp is now fully occupied, hosting more than 10,000 people a few days after its opening.

Families started arriving at the camp before it was fully finished. And some new arrivals had to spend their first few days sharing a tent with other families. But now the camp is fully opened, following the completion of a final area, which can house 240 families.

To manage, UNHCR opened a new sector.

UPSOUND (Arabic) Hawre Abdullah, field officer, UNHCR:
''We will now relocate you to sector E which has 240 family tents available. This sector has health, water, and other essential services. Good?''

Organized transport brings the fleeing families here. Among the new arrivals moving in and getting their own tent were Fawzi Mohamad and his family.

On his way, Fawzi broke down into tears. His displacement just too hard to bear.

SOUNDBITE (English) Hawre Abdullah, field officer, UNHCR:
''It's very important for every family to have their own shelter, because nobody knows for how long they stay in this camp. So, because of that, at UNHCR, we are trying our best to find a shelter per family.''

Fawzi's tent offers him what he needs most: shelter and some privacy.

SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Fawzi Mohammad, displaced Iraqi:
''We feel stable now. My neighbour Abo Mostafa got his own tent too. So, we are a settled family now, and I've just had my shower.''
While families are being relocated, a hot meal is provided by the Barzani Charity Foundation, which manages the camp.

UNHCR and its partners continue to provide support for newly displaced families.

UPSOUND (Arabic) Hawre Abdullah, field officer, UNHCR:
''Bring your stuff with you. The bus is waiting for you here.''

The agency has distributed 30,000 tents and opened six camps. Planning is in place for 5 more to shelter 120,000 people. But with winter approaching these families will need more assistance. The Mosul Appeal remains only 57 percent funded.
