Perhaps unified by the common feeling that the ambassador of Spain was referring to, the common feeling to that we maybe disagreeing but there are moments when we have to be united when we think about who are the real victims in this conflict and therefore this message was: priority now should be how to make sure that Syrian Aleppo people - in particular civilians are met in the best way are actually assisted and when they decide voluntarily to move to be actually provided protection and shelter and the humanitarian aid.”

“If the government makes an indication that they are serious about wanting to engage into a negotiation with the opposition along the lines or within the framework of 2254, I would find very difficult for anyone in the opposition at this stage not to come.”

After a closed-doors briefing to the United Nations (UN) Security Council members, the Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said “there was a sense of unity at the Security Council” when it comes to helping Syrians fleeing besieged parts of Aleppo.
The UN Special Envoy told reporters after the meeting that the UN is ready to assist those fleeing the conflict but what it needs is “enough access to be there when the people are coming to reassure them to give them a feeling that they are not alone and in particular to contribute to their own relief at the time when the expectation is going to be that there will be many more coming.”
De Mistura said he told the Council’s member that “perhaps now is the time to actually look seriously at the possible renewal of where and how we can have a political discussion.”
He underlined that “if the [Syrian] government makes an indication that they are serious about wanting to engage into a negotiation with the opposition along the lines or within the framework of 2254, I would find very difficult for anyone in the opposition at this stage not to come.”
Reportedly, some 31 000 civilians are on the move as the Syrian government forces continue to gain ground in eastern Aleppo.
