Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, today (14 Dec) bid farewell to UN staff urging staff members to “never give up” and to “keep dreaming, to keep believing, and to keep working hard until we achieve progress.”
Ban said that during the past ten years he has worked “as voice of voiceless people, defender of the defenceless people.” He told staff members to “continue to do that.”
The departing Secretary-General quipped that he felt like Cinderella, as “tomorrow at midnight,” when his tenure ends, “everything changes.”
decade of service at the helm of the world body, during which his priorities have been to mobilize world leaders around a set of new global challenges, from climate change and economic upheaval to pandemics and increasing pressures involving food, energy and water. In addition, he has sought to be a bridge-builder, to give voice to the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people, and to strengthen the Organization itself.
