Storyline

Following the United Nations Security Council’s open debate on the Palestinian question today in New York, Riyad Mansour, Permanent Observer of Palestine to the UN told reporters “it is the responsibility of the Security Council under the Charter to implement resolution 2334.”

The resolution 2334, which condemned “Israeli settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem as a "flagrant violation" of international law was adopted by the Security Council in December last year.

Mansour also said We emphasize also that collective responsibility of members of the Security Council and international community to be very vigilant in making sure that there is differentiation between the Israeli proper and the Occupied Territory in terms of dealings with states, agencies, companies with Israel and Occupied Territory.”

Asked about incoming US President Donald Trump’s intention to reverse resolution 2334, Mansour said all UN Member States, including the US, had an obligation to respect and implement Security Council resolutions.

He said a great nation like the US should be in the frontlines of defending international law as it had had interests in many UN resolutions on other issues.
