Storyline

The President of the Central African Republic (CAR), Faustin-Archange Touadera, visited Sunday (12 Mar), Bambari, a strategic city located 282 km north-east of capital Bangui.

This the first time since his election in February 2016 that he was in Bamburi and the visit is highly symbolic because the city is still threatened by several armed groups of the former Seleka rebel coalition now fighting among themselves for the control of the region rich in minerals.

United Nations Special Representative to CAR Perfect Onanga-Anyanga and Makhtar Diop, Vice President of the World Bank for Africa also visited Bamburi, together with President Tuadera.

The United Nations peacekeeping mission in CAR, Minusca, has reinforced its troops in Bambari in recent weeks. The peacekeepers already had to intervene several times to prevent attacks and to neutralize armed groups.

Bambari was until a few days ago, still occupied by an armed group.
