The United Nations Children’s Fund said some 65,000 people displaced from the fighting in Raqqa in north-eastern Syria are living in the makeshift Karama camp.
UNICEF said children and their families are living in basic conditions in the camp located in the middle of the desert. The ongoing violence in Raqqa has forced over 170,000 people out of their homes over the past three months alone.
UNICEF said it was trucking 600,000 litres of safe drinking water into the camp daily. It is also distributing hygiene kits to protect children against waterborne diseases, as well as nutritional supplies and micro-nutrients for children and pregnant and lactating women.
