The UN peacekeeping chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix arrived Sunday in Central-African Republic to help find a solution to prevent escalation of violence which threatens to undermine the ongoing peace process.
During his three-day visit, the Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations met with senior United Nations officials in the country and he will meet with Central-African authorities as well as with representative of the civil society in the country’s capital Bangui.
During the visit Lacroix said “I want to underline that those who are responsible for hate speech, division, those who are trying to polarize the society along ethnic or religious lines will pay for their actions. There is the International Criminal Court, there is the Special Criminal Court, there is Central-African judiciary system with which we are collaborating and those acts will not go unpunished.”
Three peacekeepers from Morocco were killed last week in the southeast of the country by an armed group.
