Challenge of Change: Portraits from Eastern Europe
What is it like to live in Eastern Europe in these times of profound change? What have the people gained? What have they lost? And how can the United Nations help? This film addresses these questions through the daily lives of ordinary people. A professor of economics returns to Poland after a 20-year absence to teach business people how to assess the value of Polish industries as they are opened up for foreign investment. In Albania, a newly married couple struggle to make ends meet, but they are determined to stay in their country as they see friends and relatives try to emigrate. In Czechoslovakia, two entrepreneurs – one from the private sector and the other from the State sector – are helped by the UN to expand their businesses.
