The head of UN mission in the Central African Republic (CAR) Parfait Onanga-Anyanga visited Bangassou three days after an Egyptian blue helmet was killed during an ambush by anti-balaka militiamen.
The death of the soldier brings the number of the fallen peacekeepers to 13 in the CAR since the beginning of the year.
Parfait visited a memorial inaugurated by the UN Secretary-General during his visit to the same town last October. He then turned firmly to the population, attacking the anti-Muslim rally that prevails in Bangassou.
Parfait said “we have no reason to be here if we are not here to help you. If we do not help you, we are useless. That means that if a single soldier here acts in a way that is not acceptable, today we can not hide anything, even in the big countries. All that is done in darkness and darkness comes out one day in the light. "
Parfait also went to the bishop's palace, which hosts thousands of Muslims since anti-Balaka-like militias attacked the mosque last May and have been terrorizing since.
Henry Wanzet-Linguissara, the Minister of Public Security said "the problem in Banguassou is reconciliation.
