UN Emergency

UN Emergency is a slice of present-day history, a look at the nature of a major world crisis and a report on how the international organization responds to a major challenge.
Description

0n the morning of Saturday, 6 October 1973, the United Nations entered a critical period in the history of the Middle East as gunfire erupted across the Suez Canal and the fourth Arab-Israeli war broke out. United Nations Television has produced a filmed chronology of those dramatic days, in which the action is seen to swing from the battle front to the conference tables. The film shows how an international peace force is carpentered together in a matter of hours after the Security Council decrees the creation of a UN Emergency Force. The personnel in UNEF are seen mowing in and restoring a shaky quiet to the area, as the search for a more permanent peace moves to the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
