Twenty four year-old Fadumo had spent her entire life living as a refugee in Kenya. A year ago, she chose to return to Somalia to rebuild her life and her country and the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) with its partner humanitarian agencies helped her to gain new skills and start a successful business.
Fadumo (not her real name), received training in tie and dye and now runs her own successful business and is able to support her family.
She is one of over 75,000 Somalis who have chosen to return to Somalia from Kenya’s Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps.

There are over one million displaced Somalis around the world and the UNHCR is helping refugees who voluntarily choose to return to Somalia to reintegrate into their communities through projects that build empowerment and self-reliance.
