The head of United Nations peacekeeping operations on Saturday (16 Dec) arrived in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) where he met with government officials and visited wounded Tanzanian peacekeepers at a local hospital.

SOUNDBITE (French) Jean-Pierre Lacroix of France - Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations:

14 peacekeepers were killed and more than 50 were injured in an attack by suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) elements that took place at the base of the peacekeepers in Semiliki in North Kivu of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on 7 December.
