High-Level Opening Panel and Opening Segment (statements).

In celebration of the 18th birthday of the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict (OPAC).

The overall aim of the event is to sustain global attention on ending and preventing child recruitment and participation in hostilities and to ensure effective demobilization and reintegration of children who have been recruited. It is an occasion to review progress in implementing the principles enshrined in OPAC over the past 18 years, share examples of good practice at national level, consider the significant challenges, and set the agenda for future national, regional and international action.
