Inter-Parliamentary Hearing on Migration Part 1
(co-organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Office of the President of the General Assembly)
The President of the General Assembly will open the Annual Interparliamentary Hearing.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is the global organization of national parliaments. IPU works with parliaments to safeguard peace and drive positive democratic change through political dialogue and concrete action.
Entitled Towards a global compact for safe, orderly and regular migration: The contribution of parliaments, the 2018 Parliamentary Hearing will contribute to a major debate on migration that will culminate with a UN Conference in the last quarter of the year (dates and venue to be decided).
The Hearing will allow for a comprehensive parliamentary perspective on key questions of migration and help inform the UN negotiations of the Global Compact – a new framework for the practical arrangements that need to be in place globally and nationally to ensure migration is properly managed with due regard for the human rights of migrants and the sovereign rights of States.
