Description

“The Road towards Equality for Women”

It’s been 25 years since the adoption of the international convention on women’s rights, yet no country in the world has achieved full equality for women – either in law or in practice.

Can the United Nations advance the agenda of equal rights for women, and if so, how? If progress being made – in education for girls, and political participation of women, for example? What can be done when discrimination against women is part of deeply-rooted customs and traditions?

These are some of the questions explored in this edition of World Chronicle in the company of Turkish academic Ayşe Feride Acar, the Chairperson of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
