We know that it is absolutely necessary to restore the authority of the state throughout the territory and we have taken note of the progress that is being made, in particular, the return of the prefects and other authorities in some prefectures. We encouraged the President to continue in this effort. And in terms of security, the United Nations is fully at the disposal of the Central African Republic so that all Central Africans benefit from the return to peace.”

Storyline

The Secretary-General of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), Mr. Ahmad Allam-Mi, and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA), François Louncény Fall, led a joint mission to the Central African Republic (CAR) from 15 to 17 March 2018.

During their stay, they were received in audience by the President of the Republic, Faustin-Archange Touadera; the Speaker of the National Assembly, Abdou Karim Meckassoua; the Prime Minister Simplice Mathieu Sarandji and Foreign Minister Charles Armel Doubane. They also had working sessions with the panel of facilitators of the African Initiative for Peace and Reconciliation in CAR, the diplomatic corps, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the Nations in CAR and Head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, as well as representatives of the Civil society and some religious leaders.

This visit reaffirmed the support of ECCAS and the United Nations for the African Initiative for Peace and Reconciliation in CAR and called for the immediate cessation of violence and hostilities. In this regard, the Secretary-General of ECCAS and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Africa, strongly condemned the continued attacks against the civilian population, the humanitarian personnel, and MINUSCA peacekeepers.
