Catherine Bertini, Executive Director of the World Food Programme discusses food assistance provided by her programme to needy communities in the developing world, particularly in Africa. Relying on donations, WFP needs more food resources to meet the rising need for food assistance in the Horne of Africa and in the drought stricken countries of South Africa. Ms. Bertini says WFP is also involved in a number of development projects to help people grow their own food.
