Description

World Bank

D. C. Rao, Director of the World Bank’s International Economics Department, notes that despite trade protection in the industrialized world, developing countries have almost doubled their penetration of industrial markets in the past fifteen years. This shows that strong effort and good policies can help overcome some barriers to third world development. Mr. Rao appears on the programme in connection with a recent World Bank report predicting a relatively promising outlook for developing countries in the decade ahead. In terms of economic prospects, there is, he says, a clear relationship between the ability of a country to grow and to deal with problems of equity and poverty.
