Description

NGOs

Gordon Klopf, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Non-Governmental Organizations Associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information, highlights the important role that NGOs play in promoting public understanding and support for United Nations activities and programmes around the world. Mr. Klopf says that United Nations agencies frequently seek the assistance of NGOs to carry out projects in many countries. UNICEF, for example, relies on its affiliated NGOs to promote education and child care around the globe. Many NGOs have gained prominence because of their vitality and ability to represent many of the public’s interests and needs, as well as advocate a wide range of issues, from environment to human rights.
