Australian Ambassador Peter Wilenski, Chairman of a group of 30 ambassadors overseeing the reform of the United Nations Secretariat, discusses the need to rejuvenate the functions of the UN Secretariat. Ambassador Wilenski advocates improvement of the Secretary-General’s control over the world organization and re-assessment of the major activities of the Secretariat. He calls for the elimination of governments’ monopolies on key positions as well as the appointment of more women in senior posts.
