Dr. Aleya El Bindari-Hammad, an advisor on health and development policies to the Director-General of the World Health Organization, discusses the close relationship between development and health. Economic and social development should include the vulnerable and disadvantaged sectors of society. In particular, improving the educational and social status of women, Dr. Hammad stresses, would result in a better quality of life for the family environment and so enhance that of the whole society.
