VIOLENCE AND HEALTH

Every year, more than 1.6 million people lose their life to violence. It's the leading cause of death worldwide for people between 15 and 44 years of age. Because it is so pervasive, violence is often seen as an inevitable fact of life, and a matter of 'law and order'. To help us understand violence in different terms -as a preventable scourge, like heart disease or HIV/AIDS - the World Health Organisation (WHO) has produced the World Report on Violence and Health, the first-ever global analysis of violence as a public health issue. Its principal author, Dr. Etienne G. Krug, is the guest on this edition of World Chronicle.
