“What we can continue is making progress in understanding these phenomena, and also, what we know is that in the past years this link has been benefiting from technology. Storyline

Ambassador Gustavo Meza-Cuadra of Peru today (9 Apr) told journalists that “in every aspect terrorism, in a way, benefits from organised crime,” but “there is no one solution that fits every situation.”

After heading an Arria-formula meeting on “Enhancing synergies between the United Nations and regional and sub-regional organisations to address the nexus between terrorism and transnational organised crime” Meza-Cuadra said the aim is “making progress in understanding these phenomena.”

He noted that in recent years the link between terrorism and organised crime “has been benefiting from technology.”

According to the concept note, the meeting is also aimed at finding ways to strengthen cooperation between the UN and regional and sub-regional organisations, while ensuring measures comply with international and human rights law.
