UPDATE ON HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE

Rosalyn Higgins, member of the United Nations Human Rights Committee, highlights the role of the committee in monitoring the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. She notes that the committee is authorized to consider communications from individuals or groups claiming to be victims of human rights violations in states parties to the covenant. A special rapporteur, she says, is appointed to follow up on cases.
