RECONSTRUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT AFTER THE GULF WAR

Mohammad Nour, Assistant Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Regional Director of the Bureau for Arab States and Europe, discusses UNDP's efforts in the reconstruction of the war-torn Gulf countries. As the largest multi-lateral grant agency, he says, UNDP plans to work with the countries concerned and with other United Nations agencies to identify and implement the most appropriate technical co-operation. He notes that the destruction of the agricultural infrastructure is seriously threatening food production in Iraq. In the post-war Gulf, Mr. Nour believes that women will play a vital role in the reconstruction of their nations.
