SOUTH SUMMIT IN HAVANA TACKLES THIRD WORLD ISSUES
This April, the Group of 77 held its first ever South Summit in Havana, Cuba. The historic event was the South's largest gathering of heads of state and government from the 133 developing countries members of the Group of 77. The Summit focussed on the broad themes of globalization, knowledge and technology, South-South Cooperation and North-South relations. The agenda of the Summit reflected the enormous global challenges facing developing countries today. In this edition of World Chronicle, Chief Arthur C. I. Mbanefo, Nigeria's Ambassador to the United Nations and Chairman of the Group of 77 discusses some of the important issues raised at the South Summit.
