World Chronicle 798: Reinhart Helmke, UNOPS
A NEW WAY TO CARRY OUT UN PROJECTS
The United Nations Office for Project Services - UNOPS - is often described as "the business arm of the United Nations". With an annual turnover of $800 million, UNOPS is devoted to project execution worldwide. Recently, UNOPS helped to organize two large events, "UN and Business; A Partnership for the New Millennium" and the "International Aid and Trade 2000". These events focussed on ways in which private firms and UN agencies could work together in countries that are emerging from conflict. In this edition of World Chronicle, Reinhart Helmke, Executive Director of the UN Office for Project Services, talks about current partnerships between the United Nations and private companies.
