Description

Beginning with Weber’s Oberon Overture and followed by dramatic, sung vignettes tied to the theme of human rights. Performers include Lyn Fontaine, William Warfield, Jose Ferrer, Nicole Henriot, Elena Nikolaidi, Luis Romero, and Uta Graf.
Jose Ferrer and the St. Louis Orchestra perform Aaron Copland’s “Preamble” and passages from Antonin Dvorak’s “New World” Symphony; conducted by Vladimir Golschmann.
Eleanor Roosevelt makes a transcribed appearance.
Pianist Nicole Henriot plays Liszt piano concerto with Vladimir Golschmann and the orchestra.
Programme closes with the Beethoven “Ode to Joy” conducted by Vladimir Golschmann with soloists Uta Graf (soprano), Elena Nikolaidi (contralto), Robert Rounseville (tenor) and William Warfield (bass baritone).
