Description
2000/2001 WORLD BANK POVERTY REPORT
The Voices of the Poor study, based on realities of more than 60,000 poor women and men in 60 countries, provided the background for the World Bank's World Development Report 2000/2001. The study shows that poor people are most often powerless to influence the social and economic factors that determine their well-being and that only through opportunity, empowerment and security will they break the poverty cycle. In this edition of World Chronicle, Victoria Kwakwa, a Senior Economist at the World Bank and a member of the core team who produced the World Development Report 2000/2001, talks about ways in which poverty can be reduced worldwide.
