World Chronicle 776: Bacre Waly Ndiaye, UNHCR
RACISM AND RACIAL DISCRIMINATION
In 1997, the United Nations General Assembly decided to convene the Third World Conference Against Racism, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance. Fittingly, the Conference will take place in South Africa, in the year 2001. The decision to hold this Conference reflects the growing international concern about the rise in the incidents of intolerance, and recognition of the challenges and opportunities in combating this phenomena in an increasingly globalized world. In this World Chronicle episode, Bacre Waly Ndiaye, Director of the New York Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, discusses some of the issues to be raised at the forthcoming Conference.
