FIGHTING POVERTY: THE WORLD BANK REVIEW
The world has made significant progress over the past half century in terms of per capita income, and in access to education, health, and other indicators of social development, critical for poverty reduction. In spite of that, progress has been painfully slow for many. More than 1.2 billion people - one in five - struggle in extreme poverty. One quarter of the world's population still lacks access to safe water and 125 million of the world's children are not in primary school. In this edition of World Chronicle, Mats Karlsson, Vice President for External Affairs of the World Bank, talks about what the Bank is doing to bridge the gap between rich and poor worldwide.
