Description

CEDAW

The United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), an expert body established in 1982, is composed of 23 experts on women's issues around the world. The Committee's mandate is very specific: it watches over the progress for women made in those countries that are the States parties to the 1979 Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women. In this edition of World Chronicle, Jane Connors, Chief of Women's Rights Unit at the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations, talks about the recently concluded 24th CEDAW session held at the UN Headquarters in New York.
