Description

A SOLVENT UN?

The United Nations will soon finally be able to clear all its debts to countries that have contributed to peacekeeping in previous years. The Organization will find itself in an unfamiliar position - in the black. The failure of some countries - notably the United States - to pay their dues has led to delays in reimbursements and the accumulation of debt that reached a total of 917 million dollars at the beginning of 2001. This is now about to change. In this edition of World Chronicle, Joseph Connor, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Management, talks about the difference that this new found financial stability will make for the world organization.
